I have designed 4 types of lodges for a site in Yorkshire called Keld Spring. Set in the beautiful Yorkshire Moors, the client wanted a choice of 2 and 3 bedroom lodges, which had luxury options for guests. The buildings are designed in modular form, so built offsite and transported in parts to site. The challenge was to create Caravan Act parameter buildings for ease of fabrication and transport, but ones that do not look anything like the mobile homes many people envisage usually.
The lodges are clad in seamed zinc, with bespoke glazing throughout to create contemporary designs. The large living/dining/cooking area is open plan, and guests can upgrade on their internal fixtures and fittings to suit. All FF&E is included in the lodges.
The lodges come with additional external features of covered deck areas so that they can be used all year round. Features such as an external copper clad chimney with an inbuilt pizza oven, optional external food prep kitchen area and cedar hot tubs create an indoor/outdoor living space.
These lodges are in build production now, with 41 buildings for the site, which has been launched and will be completed for occupancy in summer 2022.
URBAN BLOSSOM LODGES
Urban Blossom are a company specialising in creating new designs for the leisure market. As their designer, my brief has been to come up with new, high-end styles of buildings that challenge the expectations of the blossoming UK staycation market.
THE POPPY & THE BUD
A set of 2 designs, The Poppy & The Bud, creating luxury holiday accommodation for the company Urban Blossom. Based on natural shapes, these structures can be sited on uneven terrain due to their design, and can abut trees in woodland as they do not need typical concrete foundations. In production now, these are being sold to hotels, landowners and private individuals. The buildings are carbon positive, being constructed mainly from Tufeco® which is recycled glass, plus UK sourced wood.
The first of these buildings build is now in progress (January 2022). The image below shows the build mid way, plus the installation of a natural swimming lake. A jetty is being installed in front of the structure so users can exit the building and dive straight into the lake.
This is a new design for holiday accommodation for Urban Blossom. Built offsite, they can easily be bought onsite and minimise build time. Sleeping up to 6 people, this design called The Caterpillar and has staggered glass thresholds. Made from recycled materials, this building offers a slice of luxury, but with a clean conscience and consideration for our planet.
The latest designs for holiday accommodation for Urban Blossom. These are a variety of modular buildings that can sleep anywhere from 2-6 people, and have been designed to be fabricated offsite to avoid site disruption.
TRANSMITTER RESTAURANT, SE LONDON
A new regeneration development featuring a 3 storey restaurant designed to maximise the views from the Crystal Palace site across the city in London. The intent of the design was to create a flagship restaurant for the site, and to assist in the developers gaining planning permission to alter rooflines.
